This blog is an educational resource for activists concerned about the rapid proliferation of cloudbusters and the often irresponsible misuse of them by persons unfamiliar with ecological science. It presents case histories of weather-related damage to the environment by improper cloudbusting. Questions and comments should be sent to: joelcarlinsky@yahoo.com There is an Orgonomic Ecology mailing list which you can join by sending an e-mail to that address.
Cloudbusting is a menace to the environment. Despite some claims to the contrary, cloudbusting is not a solution to environmental problems; it is a problem in itself, a destructive technology requiring a condemnatory response by the environmental movement. Cloudbusting is not something new; it is already so comonplace as to be intolerable and an environmental movement to control this currently unregulated technology is needed to protect the public. All over the world people are getting worried about what is happening to the climate. Each year, it seems, there are more and more extreme weather events of increasing severity and frequency. Records are being broken more often than ever before in recorded history. It is clear the climate of the entire world is becoming destabilized, less reliable, more random and chaotic, with droughts, floods, heat waves, and severe cold spells becoming the norm. While there are several factors involved in this climatic breakdown, one seldom recognized major factor in this climate destabilization is the existence of a technological means to interfere with the natural movement of the atmosphere on a large scale. This device, called a cloudbuster, is simple and cheap enough to construct that in recent years hundreds of individuals all over the world, learning about it from instructions promiscuously posted on irresponsible websites, have taken it up as a backyard hobby. Many of these individuals tend to be paranoid and delusional, and are using the cloudbuster as a sort of prop in a role-playing game, often imagining themselves to be fighting off hostile UFOs, resisting a secret government plot of some kind, or changing "bad" atmospheric energy into "good". Many others claim they are "ending droughts", "making rain", or "doing research". They seem oblivious to the fact that the droughts they think they are ending resume as soon as they stop operating because the underlying cause of the drought has not been adressed. They fail to understand that the goal of proper cloudbusting is not to make rain, but to restore normal pulsation of the atmospheric energy so that, among other effects, rain will occur spontaneously as needed. They ignore the rights of the people affected to be told what is being done to their environment and to have some say in the matter, and that subjecting people to a research program who have not given their informed consent is a human rights violation. Some think they are "greening deserts", while in reality, they are subjecting the fragile dryland ecosystem to unusual stress from excessive rainfall in areas where all native life-forms are well-adapted to the prevailing conditions. They usually have no idea of the scientific basis upon which the cloudbuster works, or fantasize, without evidence, that some wildly speculative theory of their own concoction is the better theory. Frequently they have little idea of what a cloudbuster is capable of, many of them, for example, thinking it only affects their local area. As a result of these incompetent interventions in atmospheric dynamics, countless innocent victims have died and the environment has been seriously disturbed in numerous weather-related catastrophes. Due to their paranoia they do not often communicate what they are doing to others working in the same field. Many of them, in fact, think they are the only ones doing anything with what they think is a somehow suppressed and secret invention. Many others are so arrogant they think nobody except themselves and their associates is able to conduct cloudbusting operations safely and properly, so they refuse to co-operate with those they deem "unqualified". While there is certainly nothing secret or suppressed about the cloudbuster, it is regarded as crackpot by many of the scientific community, in large part because of the absurd fictions and folklore with which it has become surrounded. The fantastic legends of its' inventor, Wilhelm Reich, having been the victim of official persecution, or of some alleged conspiratorial plot, or having fought wars with beings from outer space, or having had meetings with Einstein, serve to distract attention from the serious issue of the menace of the cloudbuster he invented. This large body of folklore functions to hide the reality of the cloudbuster as an effective, science-based tool and disguise it as a crackpot fantasy. It is perfectly right, in fact, the only rational response of anyone with even the slightest scientific education, to dismiss such a device as incapable of having any effect on the weather when it is presented wrapped in such packaging. The failure to recognize the imput into the total atmospheric picture of this proliferation of crackpots playing around with cloudbusters means the scientists trying to understand the weather are misled into ignoring that a large portion of unusual weather events are being caused by this unsuspected form of technological intervention and instead think the climate changes now underway are being caused by some other factor, such as greenhouse effect from combustion products released into the atmosphere. Any theory of what is happening with the weather and climate on this planet must take the social phenomena of a mass movement of cloudbuster hobbyists into account. And the environmental movement must mount an effective effort to counter this form of blatant interference with the atmosphere. If and when cloudbusting is ever recognized by the scientific community as a science-based reality rather than a prop in a fantasy role-playing game, then it can be expected that official agencies will take over the job of protecting the public from improper use of the cloudbuster. But until then, it is up to concerned environmentalists to fill that role. Otherwise, until cloudbusting can be regulated, countless innocent victims will continue to die each year from cloudbuster-murder by crackpot Reichians. And greenhouse gases from combustion will take the rap. The world is now facing serious economic problems at least partially caused by the mistaken belief that the atmospheric disorder caused by cloudbusting is due to a greenhouse effect instead, and numerous laws are in the process of being passed taxing or restricting fuel-burning activities in an effort to prevent weather disasters that are really being caused by cloudbusting and could only be prevented by restricting the use of cloudbusters. Until effective regulation is in place, however, the few responsible people who are aware of the threat posed by cloudbusters must be ready and willing to take whatever action is needed to stop the use of cloudbusters in their home areas. Direct intervention by concerned citizens is often the only way to prevent serious harm to the earth and to the public, and this is one of those cases. |

Hi, Heiko, In regard to your letter, (reproduced below), I can only remind you that in the early 90s I sent you a lot of documentation on how much harm DeMeo was doing by his incompetence at cloudbusting. You never told me if you used any of it or not in reaching your conclusion to stop helping him. Other members of the WRI told me they had not known of all the material I sent to you, so I assumed you had not shared it with the group. I heard there was an orop in Europe that killed a lot of people, and that was the reason you decided to stop doing cloudbusting. I also heard there was an angry confrontation with DeMeo about some of the deaths he had caused, and he dismissed the complaint on the grounds the small number of deaths was justified because of all the good his work had done. I heard there was a split in the WRI because of the experiments of Bernard Harrer, who came to the conclusion that all Reichs' findings could be explained in terms of orthodox science and there was no need to postulate an ether. I was told the WRI decided to issue a formal statement that orgone was not a physical reality, but only a philosophical construct. I was told this was the reason Eva quit her association with the WRI and so did several other people. None of this was ever made public in any way that would alow someone not an insider to know who was saying what. I only found out about all this in-fighting years later from personal conversations with people who were involved. But I could see in his advertisements that DeMeo was still getting help from Bernd Senf, Manfred Fukert, Stephan Muschnich, and others who were part of your group the last time I had heard anything about them. So it was reasonable for me to think you were still helping him despite what he had done. I still have no idea what realy happened at that time, or what, if any, part the information I sent you might have had in it. Would you mind teling me the whole story, please? Blasband is also still getting help from your associates in organizing his lectures in Germany. I sent you plenty of documentation to show he had some very bad affiliations. He was a member of the Knights of Malta, a neo-Nazi organization whose leader was Charles Pitchel, who was once the personal representative in America of Adolph Hitler. Blasband was considering going into a commercial cloudbusting business with him. I sent you some documents to prove this. Blasband also was responsible for the ACO accepting and funding Trevor Constable to do work in California that kiled a lot of people there. Constable had been a campaign worker for George Walace in the 1968 presidential campaign. Walace ran on a racial segregationist platform, so what does that tell you about who Blasband ( a psychiatrist ) considers emotionaly healthy enough to be trusted with cloudbusting? He is either a fascist or incompetent, take your choice. Blasband has now effectively quit orgonomy and taken up religion. In his last article in the Journal of Orgonomy, he says that the "intent" of the operator can affect the results of cloudbusting independently of the actual physical movements of the pipes. I have seen the direction of cloud movement shift in accordance with changes in the point of aim of the pipes when they had been moved by cows bumping against them. What was the intent of the cows? Were they trying to bring changes in the weather? Or do you, a mental health professional, consider mystical thinking a valid way to understand the universe? And a sound basis for responsible work with a cloudbuster? My campaign against these people is not just a personal feud as you seem to think it is; it is a form of social activism, exactly the same as that of people who campaign against nuclear reactors or deforestation or the extermination of endangered species. It is every bit as important as any scientific research in a laboratory could be. It is directed at protecting the earth from the harm caused by irresponsible or incompetent bunglers with cloudbusters. To dismiss my realistic concerns over faulty cloudbusting as just a matter of some personal grudge against some specific person is to trivialize all environmental activism, as the right-wing anti-environmental propagandists do when they say environmentalists are motivated by this or that psychological factor and ignore that there are real environmental problems that really do require a solution. If cloudbusting is going to be used by people with nationalistic or other political agendas, and by muddle-headed mystics, it will be nothing but another form of pollution. Remember: Alfred Nobel invented dynamite as a way to end wars by making them too destructive. He only ended up making war more destructive than it was before. And the cloudbuster might end up being the worst thing that could happen to the environment, instead of being a way to help. I wrote over 2,000 posts to the orgonescience list in the two years it existed. The list archive is now being edited into a book to be posted on a website. It contains a lot of new material never published anywhere before. Some of that material is from my own observations, and some is based on things Eva told me that she had not made public in her lectures. That material includes many things she learned from Reich that are not in his published writings, and as we now know, his unpublished notes will never be made available by the Trust. So my effort to pass on what she passed on to me is the only chance anyone will ever have to learn it. A lot of it has to do with how to detect if someone is cloudbusting and where they are operating from. That information might be needed someday to help protect the world against people with cloudbusters, so I want to pass it on to prospective environmental activists. But none of this has anything to do with the Reichian - or pseudoReichian- cult that is so fixated on the public image of Reich and his personal life story. I do not care if the skeptical world ever recognizes Reich or goes right on thinking he was a fool. I am not a missionary for orgonomy. I am not trying to save souls for Reich. The Wilhelm Reich Estate is nothing but an obstruction standing in the way of people who want to make practical use of the knowledge in the Reich Archives. That you think them worth collaborating with shows you have not thought through exactly what you want to do and why you want to do it. I am still available for a seminar on orgone biophysics in Berlin or anywhere else if anyone wants to organize it for me. But I am interested ONLY in orgone biophysics, not therapy, childraising, social or political theories, conspiracy-theories, or UFO stories. And I will pull no punches; people interested in therapy or "philosophical constructs" will not like what I have to say. And certainly not biographical trivia about Wilhelm Reich. |

Hi, Peter,
I have had some correspondence recently with some guy in Australia who is anxious to promote cloudbusting there. He refered me to a contact of his in America, a Ken Swartz, who claims to be Constables' "main student". I thought that was your role, but that was a long time ago and you might have moved on.
Or he might be exagerating his connection to Constable. Are you still working with Constable? Do you know who this Ken Swartz is? I would like to know a bit more. What can you tell me about him?
Thank you.

| My mailbox today contained a letter from a physicist asking about cloudbusting and expressing an interest in doing experiments to test if it works or not. My reply follows: Dear Dr................, I am sorry, but I am afraid I must disapoint you. Cloudbusting is an established technology which has been in use for over 50 years. There is no more reason to test it for efficacy than to test the basic concept of airplanes to find out if they fly or not. If you are not aware of the literature on the subject or the considerable number of reliable witnesses who have conducted or observed cloudbusting operations, that is a defect in your knowledge of the subject, not in the science involved. If a modern-day Spaniard were to seriously suggest sending a ship across the Atlantic to find out if Columbus was right and there really is land on the other side, the rest of the population of Spain would think him insane. He would be ignoring the thousands of Spaniards who claim to have visited the Americas and the thousands of American toursits who land at Madrid Airport every day. Yet, over 50 years after cloudbusting was invented, and after large numbers of reliable witnesses have published their reports on it, you have the incredible gall to seriously urge "research" to find out if all those people are telling the truth or if they are all lying or delusional. I have never seen Japan. I have spoken to many people who say they have been there, and some who claim to be Japanese. I have read about it in books. I have seen T.V. documentaries on it. Should I doubt the existence of Japan because I have no first-hand evidence of it? You have just as much evidence for cloudbusting as I have for the existence of Japan. People who are in a position to know tell you so. There is an extensive literature on the subject. There are video tapes on it available for sale. If that is not good enough to convince you of cloudbusting, why should the same sort of evidence convince me there is a Japan? Would you consider it reasonable to refuse to believe in the existence of Japan because I have not personally seen it? I also want to point out that your degree in physics is not worth anything in dealing with cloudbusting. Neither is a degree in meteorology. Cloudbusting is not based on physics or meteorology. It is based on the science of ORGONE ENERGY, which is not in the curiculum in any university. Orgone energy does not obey the laws of physics as you have been taught them. There is nothing you could have learned in getting a physics degree that would help you understand cloudbusting. In fact, the reverse is true. Having a degree in physics or meteorology is a handicap in trying to do cloudbusting. The concepts you have been taught get in the way of understanding the phenomena. The record bears this out. People with a background in physics have the worst record in the cloudbusting field for screwing up and failing to understand what they are doing. I will not help you in your pointless quest to do "research" on the cloudbuster, a field that has been operationally tested for two generations now, and needs no further testing. I suggest you start your research program by a study of the literature. Joel Carlinsky |
